Garden Exotics of Chicago
Tip of the Month

July and summer is in full swing in Chicago. The heat and summer sun are aproaching maximum. While many annuals will respond beautifully to the long hours and full sun, special care must be taken with any potted annuals or container gardens. The larger plants will utilize more water, and the blessing of long summer hours can also quickly dry out your containers, a potentially fatal problem. Keep careful watch to ensure they never dry out completely, and always water fully to encourage the best root development. Fertilize every 10 to 14 days and be sure to deadhead for maximum bloom.
